Udupi: Sarva Dharma Souharda Samiti, Shankerpura celebrates Moharram

Udupi, 18 Oct 2017: Sarva Dharma Souharda Samiti, Shankerpura, near here, organised Moharram celebration at Sarakari Gudde, Subash Nagar on Thursday, October 12 evening. The people belonging to all caste and creed were present.
The programme began with a prayer by Chandra Poojary. Antony D’Sa, president of St John’s Evangelist Church Sauharda Samiti Shankerpura welcomed the gathering and explained briefly the genesis of Saouharda Samiti.
Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, parish priest of St John the Evangelist Church shankerpura and Correspondent of St. Johns Educational Institutions, Shankerpura presided the function and inaugurated the programme.
In his inaugural address, Fr Gonsalves greeted all the Muslims a Happy Moharram and spoke on the urgency of communal harmony at the prevailing times. The immediate need of the society is not wealth, power or qualification but Souharda. He said, ‘to remain in harmony and friendship the young generation should follow the teaching of Swami Vivekananda.’ He appreciated the selfless work of Sarva Dharma Souharda Samiti.
Akbar Ali Sahab, general secretary of Salihat Educational Institutions, Hoode, Kemmannu explained the importance of Moharram month. He said the Souharda friendship should begin at home and children from all communities must respect their parents with dignity.
Sujith Kotian, lecturer, MGM College, Udupi and Shrikath Shetty, journalist spoke effectively on the grave need of communal harmony.
The students from Government High Primary School, Subash Nagar and Thavakkal Young Men’s Committee, youth from Muslim community presented very attractive dances.
Mark Vaz, Agnes D’Sa, Abubakar and Naveen Amin introduced the president and the chief guest respectively. U Nandan Kumar, the secretary of Souharda Samiti proposed the vote of thanks. Mohammed Hanif compered the programme.
