Udupi: Rotary Club Shankerpura honours social workers on Vocational Excellence Award Ceremony

Shankerpura, 20 Sep 2017: Two eminent well known Social Workers and an institute was awarded with 2017 Vocational Excellence Annual Award by Rotary Club of Shankerpura on Monday the 19th September 2017at Rotary Bhavan Shankerpura.

 

Rotary Shankerpura organizes monthly psychiatric camps for mentally retarded patients with the help of donors and philanthropist. One of them is Dr. Vedavyasa Bhatt Biliyaru (Shankerpura) who is the back-bone of Shankerpura for these monthly medical camps who has contributed generously over the years. On his request the excellence awards too were arranged by Rotary Club Shankerpura and this year Dr. Vedavyasa who is also a doctor by profession practicing in USA arranged this vocational excellence award the cost was entirely born by Dr. Vedavyasa himself.

 

The awardees were Dr. P.V. Bhandary (Eminent Psychiatric) to treats psychiatric patents monthly at medical camps held at Shankerpura, Ms. Mary Martis (Social Worker) and  Aim for Seva Ashram Bhantakal).

 

The award ceremony began with a warm welcome by Rtn. Naveen Barboza (President, Rotary Shankerpura) followed by introduction of the Chief Guest of the day Dr. Vedavyasa by Rtn. John Lobo wherein he highlighted various achievements and philanthropist works of Dr. Vedavyasa. He said Dr. Vedavyasa was his student and when in high school at Innanje he recognized his potential as a bright student which proved later on with a rank in SSLC. He further said, he would not settle for half less mark unless it is fully justified and way ahead of other students when he was his student. Later on he moved on to other colleges and off to USA for further studies and obtained degree and post graduation and eventually became a doctor and now serving as a psychiatric in U.S.A. In conclusion he said that Dr. Vedavyas just completed his 60th B’day but instead of celebrating as a grand celebration he dediciated his b’day celebration to award excellence award for the three eminent social workers in the field. He thanked him for his great and noble cause and wished him good health.

 

 

All the three awardees were honored by Dr. Vedavyasa himself with garlands, flower baskets, a citation and cash prize. Dr. P.V. Bhandary for his great contribution to patients at the monthly medical camps, Ms. Mary Martis for her various services for all type of patients from and around Bantakal, Shankerpura, young and old who dedicated her life for the poor and underprivileged and Mr. Ananth  on behalf of Sri Sri Mokshananda Sarawati Swamiji  who runs Aim for Seva Ashram Bhantakal, a charitable institution involved with helping the poor and underprivileged.

 

Dr. P.V. Bhandary expressed his feelings and thanked Rotary and especially Dr. Vedavyasa for recognizing and awarding him and two other personalities. He said initially he was reluctant to join Rotary Shankerpura as a consultant as he was already engaged in Brahmawar Rotary helping out with their psychiatric patients and didn’t wanted more responsibilities but on constant request from his old friend Dr. Anant Bhatt he eventually said yes. But after joining he was really happy to work with so many patients and have treated many of them back to normal life. He further said he has not done any extra ordinary work to be awarded with excellence award. He has done what was needed for the patients as his profession as a psychiatric doctor. However, he is feeling happy today at least he has done something to regain and bring back many patients to live a normal life.

 

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Vedavyasa said that he was really happy to be associated with Rotary club of shankerpura as it is his duty to help the needy patients. He is being far away could not attend himself to patient but people like Dr. Bhandary have taken great initiate to serve people and he will help whatever way he can in his capacity. He wished all social workers all the best in their future services.

 

Also spoke on the occasion were guests of honour on dais Rtn. Phf. Hariprasad Shetty (Asst. Governor, Zone 5, Dist. 3182) and Rtn. Naveen Amin (Zonal Lieutinant, Zone 5). Rtn. Vincent Saldanha proposed the vote of thanks.
