Mangaluru: Milagres parish emerge Champions of Permannur Football Cup-2017

Mangaluru, 01 Sep 2017: Society of St Vincent De Paul (SVP) youth wing and Permannur parish football players jointly organized Permannur Football Cup - 2017, an Inter-Parish Football tournament at St Sebastian School grounds, here, from August 26 to August 27.

 

It was organized as part of centenary jubilee celebration of St Sebastian church, Permannur, here. Thirty-two teams from 26 parishes of Mangaluru diocese participated in 2-day tournament.

 

 

Permannur parish vice president Melvyn C D’Souza and secretary Ronald Fernandes inaugurated the tournament, here, on August 26. Joseph D’Sa, Naveen D’Souza and Frank Fernandes were present at the dais.

 

Permannur parish preist Fr Dr J B Saldanha, international bodybuilder and Ekalavya Award recipient Roshan Ferrao, Fr Praveen Joy Saldanha, sports Committee secretary Hillary Cutinho, national power lifting champion Ashley A J D’Souza were present during the valedictory function.

 

Fr Dr J B Saldanha spoke on upliftment of sportsmanship and uUnity among youths of various parishes. He advised participating teams to fight hard for the win on the field but return home in unity, smiling and shaking hands.

 

Ashley A J D’Souza was felicitated during the programme. He had won gold medals in events organized at Mandya, in Karnataka and Maharashtra and has been selected for International event in 2019 at Abu Dhabi.

 

Our Lady of Miracles parish, Milagres emerged Champion’s of Permannur Football Cup - 2017, dominating all the matches they played. While Infant Mary parish, Bajjody were runners up of the tournament.

 

Individual prizes won by

Best Defender - Gavin Pinto Milagres parish,

Best Forward – Robin, Bajjody parish,

Best Goalkeeper – Relston, Valencia parish,

Fairplay Award - Valencia parish.

 

Younus, Tanveer, Deepti and Harshita Shetty were the referees of tournament. The tournament witnessed a lot of support from the parishioners of participating teams and locals. The participating teams appreciated the efforts of the organizers and promised they would be back for the tournament next year.
