Hundreds gather at Brigade road to for a silent candle light protest towards Gandhi statue - Send ‘Get well soon’ cards to PMO

Protestors demand Prime Minister to waive off farmer loans by nationalized banks

Bengaluru, 25 Jul 2017: The members of the Youth congress under the leadership of the state president Basanagouda Badarli organized a massive rally at Brigade road in Bangalore to mark the protest against the central government’s failure to waive off the loans of the farmers of the state. In a unique way, the members displayed Gandhigiri by wishing Prime Minister Modi speedy recovery.

This silent and unique protest comes in wake of the widespread sufferings that the poor farmers of Karnataka are facing during to prolonged droughts in the state. The congress led state government came to the rescue of these farmers and waived off Rs 8,165 crore worth of crop loans taken from cooperative banks by poor farmers in distress.

The protestors gathered at Brigade Road and marched towards to the Gandhi statue through MG road where they lit candles and offered their respects to the father of the nation. The members wrote hand written get well soon messages to the prime minister and got it collected to be sent to the PMO.

Speaking on the occasion, Basanagouda Badarli said, ‘The farmers in our state are in deep trouble. Ever since the BJP government has come to power, we have been the most neglected state in the country. Just because the people of Karnataka have chosen the congress party to power, the prime minister and his cabinet of ministers have simply neglected the state. While the chief minister has come to the rescue of more than 2,227,506 farmers in the state, why can’t the central government come off and do their bit?’ he questioned.

Mohammed Haris Nalapad, the general secretary of Youth Congress Bangaluru said, ‘This march should serve as an eye opener. Our motive is not to create chaos and shout defaming slogans. We are here to demand what our farmers deserve, but in a peaceful way. Today, we demonstrate Gandhigiri and hope that PM gets well soon so that he is able to see the plight of our farmers and waive off their loans.’

‘It is high time that the Prime Minister and his followers stops shedding crocodile tears and start acting. This ‘Acche Din’ promised seems to be helping the rich friends of the prime minister and not the poor farmers,’ he added.
