Karkala: Kannada doesn’t bind any faith, caste & creed - Fr Edwin

Karkala, 18 Jul 2017: Kannada does not bind any faith, caste and creed. It facilitates to foster love, trust and brotherhood, said Fr Edwin D’Souza, parish priest of St Joseph’s parish, Belman, near here.

 

Fr Edwin was speaking after inaugurating Belman Kannada Sahitya Sammelan that was held at St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, near here, jointly organized by Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Karkal unit, Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Belman, Belman journalists group, Belman Rotary Club and Kannada literary union of St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, as part of Journalism Day celebrations, on Monday, July 17.

The veteran journalist, columnist and Kannada litterateur E Koppala Srikar Bhat Marate chaired the Sammelan.

 

Fr Edwin further said, ‘Sahitya Sammelan should be focused on Kannada medium students that are being neglected by state administration.  There are no appointments of teachers in aided schools. It has driven the authorities to shut schools,’ said Fr Edwin.

 

In his presidential address, Srikar spoke elaborately on different aspects of media and literature, print media internet and TV channels of 3rd millennium, with its benefits and perils.

 

Karkala taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Prabhakar Shetty Kondalli in his keynote address said that media is striving to reform the society, while media and journalists’ promote literature.

 

Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor was the guest of honor said. ‘The state administration has not earnest interest to sustain Kannada. There are students in Kannada medium schools, but no teachers. All our struggles to save Kannada medium schools are in vain. If a lone teacher is teaching for Class I to Class VII, how can Kannada medium schools can survive? Thousands fo books are being released but no takers,’ said Harikrishna.

 

Belman gram panchayat member Prabhakar Shetty hoisted the national flag, while Belman Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Jayanti Shetty hoisted Sahitya Parishat flag.

 

Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Nilavvar Surendra Adiga and ZP member Uday Shetty also spoke on the occasion.

 

TP member Asha Devendra Shetty, entrepreneur Gregory Menezes, Belman parish council vice president Alwyn Ageira, Kannada literary union president Sudhiksha, secretary Srusti Shetty, district secretary Suralu Narayan Madi, Belman Rotary Club president Devendra Shetty, taluk secretary Pilar Sudhakar Shenoy were present.

 

Arun Rao compered the programme. Sammelan convener Pundalika Marate introduced the chairman Srikar Marate. The secretary Hariprasad Nandalike proposed vote of thanks
