Mangaluru: State transport minister Reddy opens new KSRTC depot at Sullia

Mangaluru, 16 Jul 2017: KSRTC is one among public transport in country that operates profitably and responds effectively to the needs of passengers, said Karnataka state transport minister Ramalinga Reddy.

 

The minister Reddy was speaking after inaugurating KSRTC new depot at Sullia, on Saturday, July 15.

 

 

KSRTC governed with transparency and lays emphasis on conveniences of passengers by maintaining time schedules. It has bagged over 100 awards for passenger-friendly services in the last 2 years. Furthermore, it would be made more passenger-friendly in the coming days, said minister Reddy.

 

The Congress-ruled state administration has opened 76 bus terminuses and 40 bus depots in 4 years. It is running city buses in 36 towns that are well patronized by the general public. It has planst o introduce city buses in many towns and cities across Karnataka, added minister Reddy.

 

The construction of quarters for KSRTC staff is under way in Dharmasthala, Sullia and Madikeri, said minister Reddy. The construction of depot at Sullia that was begun in 2014 completed swiftly. Further, 11 quarters will be built in Sullia, added minister Reddy.

 

The state forests and DK district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai after laying the foundation for building quarters for KSRTC staff said, ‘KSRTC buses pose stiff competition to private bus operators, while more buses will be added on the routes that are demanded by people of different regions across the district,’ said minister Rai.

 

Speaking on the occasion, KSRTC chairman K Gopal Poojary said, ‘There are demands to open depots in Kadaba and Karkala that are under review. There lies space constraint in Subramanya, if the proper land is available, a depot will be built there. A proposal has been submitted to CM Siddaramaiah to issues free season tickets to students in KSRTC buses, while such facility is only available to SC/ST students, said Poojary.

 

Sullia MLA S Angara presided the programme.

 

Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty, ZP president Meenakshi Shantigodu, Sullia town panchayat chairperson Sheelavati, TP president Chaniya Kaltadka, KSRTC director T K Sudhir, Ramesh Shetty, Shoukat Ali and others were present.
