London: Indian High Commissioner pays tribute to Basaveshwara on birth anniversary

London, 29 Apr 2017: The 883rd birth anniversary of Basaveshwara was celebrated here, on Friday, April 28. The High Commissioner of India Y K Sinha paid tribute to Basaveshwara statue at Albert embankment, here, on Friday.

 

Addressing the gathering of Indian community Sinha said, ‘We must celebrate values and teachings of Basaveshwara and there is no place for any kind of discrimination in modern world.’

 

 

Tributes were also paid to Buddha and Ambedkar on the birth anniversary of Basaveshwara.

 

The event was organized by the former mayor of the London borough of Lambeth, Dr Neeraj Patil on behalf of the Lambeth Basaveshwara Foundation.

 

Speaking on the occasion Dr Patil said, “We are paying tribute to both Buddha and Ambedkar on the birth anniversary of Basaveshwara as they share a conceptual relationship. All fought against caste discrimination,’ said Dr Patil.

 

Members of Indian community took a pledge at the statue to oppose caste discrimination.

 

On 14th Nov 2014 Prime Minister Modi unveiled the statue of Basaveshwara and Ambedkar’s house. The historic city of London has the statue of all three great reformers.

 

The statue of Buddha is located in the Peace Pagoda, Battersea Park London SW11 4NJ.

 

The Basaveshwara statue erected at the Albert Embankment is not only the first statue to be unveiled by an Indian Prime Minister in the UK, but is also the first conceptual statue approved by the British Cabinet in the vicinity of the Parliament. This is located at Albert Embankment, London SE1 7TY.

 

Ambedkar House in London was brought by Government of Maharashtra and converted into a museum. While acquiring higher education in London during 1921-1922, he lived here. The Ambedekar house is located in the London borough of Camden and the address of this historic place is 10, King Henry’s Road, London NW3 3RP.
