Bantwal: Lightning strikes at Jakribettu, migrant laborers, baby die at project site

Bantwal, 13 Apr 2017: Two migrant laborer women and a four-year-old child died in a lightning on the shore of Netravati River, at Jakribettu, here on Wednesday, April 12 evening.
The deceased were identified as Hanumakka, Jayamma and a 4-year-old child, hailing from Jagare, Javanagondahalli hobili of Hiriyoor taluk in Tumkur district. Another child is recovering at the hospital.
Several migrant laborers including Hanumakka and Jaymma were working at Jakribettu, near here, the site of second phase of drinking water project executed by Bantwal town council @ Rs 52 crore.
Hanumakka and Jayamma had placed their child on a boulder nearby and were washing their clothes in the river, when the lightning struck.
As a result both Jayamma and Hanumakka were drowned owing the lightning jolt, while their children were injured and rushed to the hospital.
Bantwal Tahsildar Purandar Hegde, Bantwal town police sub-inspector Rakshit Gowda visited the spot.
