Udupi: Adani-UPCL to spend Rs 1.50 crore to rejuvenate lakes - Kishore Alva

Udupi, 26 Mar 2017: The Adani owned UPCL power plant operating at Yellur village in Udupi district, undertakes rejuvenation of Manda lake located at Santoor village in the limits of Mudarangady gram panchayat at a project cost of around Rs 1.50 crore. UPCL executive director and joint president Kishore Alva shown green signal for this development work by performing the Bhoomi puja, here on Sunday, March 26.
Speaking on the occasion, Kishore Alva said that the residents of Santoor and the members of Mudarangady gram panchayat had requested Adani UPCL to develop this twin lake ’Mainda’ spread over in 6 acres in Santoor village and on Sunday, UPCL in hands with Adani Foundation is taking-up this work under Rural Infrastructure Development Programme of Adani CSR. He also said that with the development of this lake, the water scarcity being faced by the villagers in summer will be solved and the place can be converted as a tourism spot. The rejuvenation of lake involves removal of silt, creating paths for run-off water and construction of compound wall and the works would soon be taken-up and the development work will be monitored by the in-house team of Adani, Alva added.
Further Alva said that many years ago, the Mainda lake used to cater to the water requirements of the surrounding villagers and as the days went on the lakes got dried up and not being used by anyone. Now this lake is being developed to provide water facility to the villagers. Alva also informed that in the financial year 2017-18, an amount of Rs 3crores has been earmarked under CSR for the developments of Mainda Lake in Santoor village, Dalantri Lake in Yellur and Belapu Lake. Also expressed that the development of lakes will also facilitate increasing water quantum in the nearby bore wells.
A Safe Drinking Water Unit on RO based technology has been set-up in Mudarangady catering the drinking water requirements to nearly 2,000 villagers and Adani UPCL will soon initiate Rain Water Harvesting for all the bore wells in Mudarangady to ensure no water scarcity to the villagers during summer, said Alva.
Addressing the villagers and media, Alva informed that against the declared grant of Rs 4.65 crore to Mudarangady gram panchayat, already the development works up to a tune of Rs 75 lac has been already completed in this financial year and the village development works worth Rs 1 crore will be taken-up by the end of this financial year.
