Manipal University Enters into Tech Transfer Agreement with Bengaluru Company

Manipal, 21 Mar 2017: Manipal University entered into a technology transfer agreement with Rajalakshmi Govinda Variar Research and Innovations Private Limited (RGVRI), a Bengaluru based company recently for a dietary supplement to control blood sugar in type 2 diabetic patients.
The technology transfer was part of the 80 projects undertaken by Rotary Club of Manipal to mark the 80th birthday celebrations of Dr Ramdas Pai, Chancellor, Manipal University (MU) in 2015. Dr Ranjan R Pai, CEO and MD, Manipal Education and Medical Group released a book highlighting various activities completedunder the 80 projects.
The supplement is an innovation by Indira Ballal, wife of Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, Manipal University. The relevant studies were carried out and was found that the formulation shows promising results in diabetic patients in controlling blood sugar levels. The formulation has been sent to the Indian patent office for approval.
The agreement was signed by Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, Manipal University and Dr Sarasija Suresh, Director, RGVRI. On the occasion Dr Ranjan R Pai, Dr H S Ballal, Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Dr G K Prabhu, Director, Manipal Institute of Technology and a few members of Rotary club, Manipal town were present. Dr N Udupa, Director Research (Health Sciences) coordinated the event and gave a brief background of the invention, development and technology transfer.
Dr Ranjan Pai suggested how this technology can be improved for larger good of society. Dr H S Ballal thanked the members and was optimistic that more such technologies from Manipal University would be transferred in future.
