Dubai: SMMC sports - Flipperz, Konkans, and Coastal emerge victorious

Dubai, 19 Feb 2017: SMMC (St. Mary’s Mangalorean Community) Dubai organized a regimented one day’s Indoor Cricket and Throw ball Tournament ‘SMMC Sports 2017’ on 17th February 2017, Friday, where total competent 28 Catholic & Christian teams all over from UAE participated at the Insportz Sports Club Dubai.

 

As the various sports team members arrived in the morning, registration process was carried by the efficient SMMC volunteers. SMMC’s Core member and emcee of the day Clement Cardoza initiated the opening ceremony with the introduction of the organization SMMC. SMMC Sports Convener Boniface Carlo rendered welcome address. SMMC Spiritual Director Fr. Robert Lasrado recited the opening prayer and conveyed the message narrating the importance of the event which brings the unity between the people. Guest of honour Walter Dsouza Nandalike, Editor in Chief of Daijiworld appreciated the efforts of SMMC in Dubai Parish and hosting an sports event to bring in closeness in the UAE Konkani community. Walter Nadalike was honoured for his enormous support and contribution to Konkani Community. Daiji Rang Mandir Convener Dyan DSouza was also present during the ceremony.

 

SMMC Vice Coordinator Jerina Lewis introduced all the participating teams and carried out oath taking ceremony. Insportz briefed to the participating teams about the custom rules and regulations for the tournament. Fixtures were declared the tournament format and matches for Cricket and Throw ball started simultaneously in 5 courts. Cricket tournament was declared open with Fr. Robert Lasrado and SMMC Core Team symbolically batting in the Cricket court and passing the ball in the Throw Ball Court.

 

 

Throughout the day, supporters, guests and prominent members of Konkan community visited the venue and were kept engrossed in the spectacular matches between various teams of Cricket (men), Throwball (Men) and Throwball (women).

 

In the evening, Emcees Clement Cardoza and Jerina Lewis started the Award presentation ceremony. SMMC Coordinator Oswald Fernandes rendered vote of thanks to all the sponsors, participating teams, Insportz authorities, volunteers and all those contributed to the success of the event.
