Udupi: Vishwasadamane reunites destitute Rokia with her family after 3 years

Udupi, 22 Dec 2016: Vishwasadamane, rehabilitation centre, Shankerpura, near here reunited a destitute woman after 3 years at the facility, on Monday, December 19.
Rokia Nasreen Banu was the destitute woman picked up by the activists of Vishwasadamane from nearby Malpe – Kalmady bus stand 3 years ago, upon the call from police control room. She was shabbily dressed and found to be mentally unstable when she was brought to Vishwasadamane. The staff at the facility bathed her and dressed her with new clothes. The doctors treated her for mental ailments and she began to recover slowly.
She took interest in cooking, farming and outdoor work. The staff tried their best to get contact address of her family. Rokia was admitted at Srinivas Hospital, Suratkal, Mangaluru on November 30 for higher treatment. Here, she came into contact with a Muslim woman who took Rokia’s pic/info and sent to her contacts. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Udupi and M Friends, Mangaluru forwarded the info to their associates in Ahmedabad and were successful in establishing contacts with her family.
As a result, the son of Rokia, 2 daughters and grandson arrived at Vishwasadamane, here on Monday and were awe-struck to see their mother who disappeared from home three-and-a-half-year ago.
Rokia was suffering from mental ailments and despite medication there was no improvement in her health. Meanwhile, she disappeared from their home one fine day. The family lodged complaint with Ahmedabad police and her pic was displayed along national highway from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, to trace her at the earliest, but without success.
Rokia’s family thanked Vishwasadamane, Jamaat-e-Islami Hindu, Udupi and M Friends, Mangaluru for reuniting them with long lost mother and left to Ahmedabad.
