Bantwal, 23 Nov 2016: In order to curb fake currency notes and black money, both union government and RBI has demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and issued new currency notes of Rs 2,000. Meanwhile, it’s just over 2 weeks, since new notes of Rs 2,000 were issued, the fake notes of same denomination were already surfaced in the market.
Vittal police registered a case of duping daily wagers by giving color copy of Rs 2,000 in the limits of Punacha gram panchayat.
In another case, a certain Krishnappa, a resident of Yermetottu in the limits of Punacha gram panchayat was the victim of such incident. He had mortgaged his ring at a finance company in Vittal, near here on Monday, November 21 afternoon and got Rs 2,000 new currency note. He tried to get change with filling stations in Vittal and Punacha, near here but without success. Meanwhile, he went to liquor shop of MSIL at Punacha and bought liquor giving his new note and they gave him the change. He was on his way home, when men from liquor shop arrived in motorcycle and accosted him to return the liquor because the note that he had given was fake. He tried to convince them that he had been given the notes by the finance company that the currency notes were issued by PSU bank.
Krishnappa who is the victim approached Vittal sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga who has checked the CCTV footage at the finance company office.
The general public expressed their anguish over the bank staff who are irresponsible in issuing the notes without checking the genuineness. There is likelihood of mafia active in fake currency. The common man is hard pressed owing to demonetization.
