MSW Students of St. Mary’s College Shirva organize Awareness Programme against the use of Plas

Udupi/M’Belle, 11 Nov 2016: The MSW students of St. Mary’s College Shirva along with Lions Club of Moodubelle, Belle Grama Panchayat and NSS Unit of St. Lawrence PU College Moodubelle organized Awareness Programme against the use of plastic material at the Geeta Mandir, Moodubelle on Friday, 11 November 2016 at 10.30 am.

 

The inaugural function was presided over by Mrs. Ranjani Hegde, President of Belle Grama Panchayat. Ln. Elias D’Souza, President of Lions Club Moodubelle inaugurated the programme by distributing cotton bags to the dignitaries on the dais-Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna-member of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Hrish Shetty-Vice President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Ln. Devdas Hebbar-former President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat and presently Secretary of Lions Club of Moodubelle, Manjunath Mokashi-Assistant Professor of MSW, St. Mary’s College Shirva and the resource person Miss Sahana Kundar Sooda-Joint Secretary of Karnataka State College Students Union. Mrs. Lakshmi Acharya-Coordinator of MSW Department and Assistant Professors-Taranath K. and Ms. Prajna Krishnan and Ln. Elias Lobo were also present for the programme.

 

 

Ln. Elias D’Souza, Ln. Devdas Hebbar, Harish Shetty, Manjunath Mokashi Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna and Mrs. Ranjani Hegde appreciated the awreness programme against the use of plastic organized by the MSW students of St. Mary’s College Shirva and pointed out the need to give up plastic in daily use in order to promote clean and safe environment.

 

Miss Sahana Kundar Sooda in her keynote address pointed out the dangerous chemical substances out of which the plastic articles are being made and how these chemicals affect the health of people right from causing cancer to other ailments. She lauded the ‘Swach Bharath Programme’ initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged the people to support the cleanliness programme of the PM not only by cleaning the surrounding areas but also by giving up the use of plastic articles in day to day life.

 

A short animated film on the adverse effects of the use of plastic was also shown to the audience.

 

Kiran, welcomed the gathering, Sushmitha C. proposed the vote of thanks, Rajesh introduced the resource person and Prima Rose Alva compered the programme.

 

Soon after the function in the Geetha Mandir, the students organized a procession along the main road of Moodubelle shouting slogans against the use of plastic. Some of the students also distributed cotton bags to the passersby and at a shop they also helped a lady to transfer vegetables from the plastic bag into the cotton bag provided by them.
