Diocesan convention of YCS/YSM themed Year of Mercy held

Udupi, 08 Nov 2016: Udupi diocese convention of Young Catholic Students Movement (YCS/YSM) was held at St Francis Xavier’s church premises, Udyavar, here on Sunday, November 6.

 

The celebration of faithful began with Eucharistic Mass concelebrated by Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi diocese at St Francis Xavier’s Church at 10.00am. 

 

Fr Edwin D’Souza, director of Udupi diocesan of YCS/YSM, and director of Youth Commission, Fr Dr Roque D’Souza, parish priest of Udyavar, Fr Herold Pereira, director of SCS, Udupi diocese and clergies of different parishes under Udupi deanery were present.

 

In his homily, Bishop Dr Lobo highlighted the mercy shown by Jesus on sinful women who committed sin of adultery. Jesus showed his mercy to all that he loved us. God Almighty loves all even though they are sinners.

 

After the mass one hour Adoration was held under the Rev Fr. Herald Periera. More than 750 YCS students, animators and organizers were present during the mass as well as Adoration prayers.

 

 

The stage event was held themed on Mercy Year. Skit and dances were held on the theme of mercy by most of the diocesan parish units of the YCS. Singing event held by each 5 deaneries of the diocese. Ashwin D’Costa, Shawn Rodrigues and Sr Ancilla D’ Mello, noted famous personalities of Mangaluru were jurors of the event.

 

Udupi diocesan vicar general Monsignor Baptist Menezes spoke during the occasion. 

 

Bishop gave his presidential address with hints regarding various higher level courses and career guidance to the students.

 

Fr Royal Nazareth, parish priest of Katpady, Fr Paul Rego, parish priest of Pamboor, Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of Udupi diocese and parish priest of Kuntalnagar parish, Fr Edwin D’Souza, director of YCS, Hazel Martis, president of Karnataka regional YCS, Leon Lewis, president of YCS, diocese of Udupi, Rolwin Menezes, secretary and other among were present on the dais. 

 

The jury members of the event, donors, winners of street play, co-ordinators of YCS were honored during the occasion. 

 

The prizes were presented to the winners of various events.

 

Earlier Leon welcomed the gatherings. Rolwin Menezes proposed vote of thanks. Vencilla Noronha, Rayan Fernandes and others compered the programme.
