Moodbidri: Over 100 people sign papers of organ donation at Pandit Resort

Moodbidri, 16 Oct 2016: Organ Donation pledging program took place at Pandit Health Resort & Spa, here on Saturday, October 15, in association with KMC Hospitals Mangalore, Rotary club Moodbidri and ZCCK Bangaluru.

 

The program started with the lighting of lamp by Swami Charukeerthi Bhattaraka of Jain Mutt, Moodbdiri, Fr Basil Vaz, parish priest of Holy Rosary Church, BJP leader Jagadish Adhikari, Sridevi Goel IPS, former director general of police, KMC medical superintendent Dr Anand Venugopal, Alvas medical superintendent Dr Harish Nayak, Rotary Club Moodbidri president Mohammed Sharif, Lions Club Moodbidri secretary Dr Shetty, Mrs and Mr Lal Goel chief promoter of Pandit Health Resort &and chairperson Ruby Agarwal.

 

In her welcome address, Ruby Agarwal, chairperson of Pandit Resort explained in details about the advantages and procedure of Organ Donation, she said that In India the statistics at present are very low at 0.08 percent almost minimal while in other countries its 10 percent to  percent. She said that all of us can be organ donors, irrespective of age, caste, religion, community, current or past medical condition except cancer and HIV patients. This act could allow many recipients to return to a normal lifestyle. For others, a cornea or tissue transplant means the ability to see again or the recovery of mobility and freedom from pain.

 

Swamiji of Jain Mutt Moodbidri gave his blessings & explained the importance of donations for saving the human life . He praised Mr. Goel & Pandit Resort for the initiative taken by them in creating awareness for Organ donation. He handed over the Certificate of Appreciations to all the donors who were present and he expressed his happiness and gratitude that Organ donations were made by all the castes such as Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Jain.

 

 

Father Basil Vaz said that he himself has already donated eyes & also donated blood more than 50 times.

 

Dr Anand Venugopal, medical superintendent of KMC Mangaluru explained the need to create more and more awareness about Organ Donations in India as the figures are very low in comparisons to the requirement.

 

Dr Laxman Prabhu, head of urology, KMC Mangaluru cleared the myths and doubts about the organ Donations, its after effects, as well as the detailed procedure.  He mentioned that if a tree falls it can be used but Human body after death disintegrates so it is better to become of some use before dying by giving life to someone else.

 

Dr Harish Nayak, medical superintendent of Alvas hospital explained in easy terms the benefits of the Organ Donation. He emphasized to create an organ Donation Fund for the benefit of poor & needy patients.

 

Amarnath Shetty, Karnataka former minister thanked Goel of Pandit Resort for organizing such type of organ Donation drive for the first time in Mangaluru.

 

Jagadish Adhikari, prominent BJP leader also thanked Pandit Resort, Rotary Club and KMC Hospital for their efforts to make this drive successful.

 

Mohammed Sharief, president of Rotary Club - Moodbidri explained the motto of Rotary which is now in its 100th year of its inception. He thanked Pandit Resort for giving them the opportunity to be associated with the program.

 

Sridevi Goel IPS former Director General of Police expressed her happiness that so many Organ donation pledging forms have been filled in a single function and urged everyone to continue the movement with their friends & relatives.

 

Chand Goel IAS, former chief secretary said that he would urge the Central govt. to start a nationwide single phone number emergency helpline for the donors and needy recipients.

 

Archana, security manager, Jet Airways mentioned how the Airport people cooperate for the speedy transfer of such organs from Mangaluru Airport to Bangaluru Airport. She thanked the management and staff of Pandit Resort.

 

Lal Goel in his speech advised that if anyone gives you Thanks for any reason please ask him to pledge his organs instead of Thanking after convincing his family and continue this chain. He said that he will be now dedicated towards this organ Donation drive on a continuous basis. He thanked everyone who made this drive successful & urged to spread the awareness & need to save more lives in future voluntarily.

 

The total number of pledging of Donation has crossed more than 100 people in this programme.

 

The program was attended by Bahubali president of Bar Association, Bharadwaj A C of CISF Mangaluru International Airport, P K Thomas, Ganesh Bhat of Axis Bank - Moodbidri, Laxman from V4 News, Ashiq of Spicejet among others.
