Bantwal: Raita Sangha condemns ransacking of areca plantation at Kolambe

Bantwal, 04 Oct 2016: Raita Sangha condemns the ransacking the areca plantation in the limits of Kandavara gram panchayat of Mangaluru taluk. The farmer should get appropriate compensation for illegally ransacking the plantation. The government should register criminal case on those responsible for ransacking the plantation, urged Karnataka state Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene.
DK district president of Raita Sangh Hasiru Sene - Sridar Shetty Bailuguttu and organizing secretary Manohar N Shetty held a press meet at Vittal, near here on Monday October 3, condemning the anti-peasants policy followed by Kandavara gram panchayat.
It’s the first incident in the district, wherein 400 areca plants that has been yielding crop since 14 years belonging to Krishna Pakkala, residing at Kolambe at the limits of Kandavara gram panchayat. Krishna had grown plantation in 13 acre disused plot and encroached upon 1 acre. The panchayat administration with the security of police ransacked the plantation on September 28. Krishna who is solely dependent on plantation is in utter desperation, said Shetty. The village council has ransacked the plantation using earthmovers. Krishna who had borrowed farm loan to develop the plantation is further burdened, added Shetty.
Karnataka state Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene honorary legal advisor Muruva Mahabala Bhat, Hasiru Sene convener Dayanand Shetty Kuppepadav, Vijay Kuppepadav and others were present.
