Puttur: Yaksha Patya Gayana held at St Philomena College

Puttur, 02 Oct 2016: As Mangalore University has introduced a lesson on Yakshagana for Second Degree students in Kannada text books, department of Kannada, Kannada Association and Yakshakala Kendra of St Philomena College, here organised a programme ‘Yaksha Pathya Gayana’ at College auditorium on Saturday, October 1.
A lecturer of Pompeii Pre-University College, Kinnigoli Shridhara B S participated as the resource person. He said, ‘Yakshagana is one of the prominent arts of coastal region of our State. It consists of rich cultural heritage.’
The campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the guest of honour. The principal Professor Leo Noronha in his presidential address said, ‘We should protect and preserve the art forms of coastal area which will enhance our knowledge about folk arts.’
Yakshagana artiste Vinaya Acharya participated in the programme. The convener of Yakshakala Kendra Prashanth Rai delivered introductory speech. The head of department of Kannada Dr Vijaya Kumar M welcomed the gathering. Kannada lecturer Dr Basthiam Pais proposed the vote of thanks. Kannada lecturer Prashanthi N compered the programme.
