Teacher’s Day Celebrated in St Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle

Udupi, 07 Sep 2016: 5 September 2016 being a public holiday on account of Shri Ganesh Chaturthi, Teachers’ Day was celebrated in St. Lawrence PU College on Wednesday, 7 September 2016 at 3 pm in the college hall. Prior to the official function, students organized few spot games for the teachers.

 

The Teachers’ Day function was presided over by Rv. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa, Parish priest of St. Antony’s Church, Kuntalnagar and PRO of the Udupi Diocese was the chief guest. Alphonse K Alva, President of  PTA, Navin Correa, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and staff members; Mrs. Leena D’Silva, Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and High School teachers; Rev. Fr. William Andrade (OFM Cap), Superior of  Assisi Nilaya representing parents and guardians, as well as Navitha, SPL of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Ashish Alva-CPL of St. Lawrence PU College were on the dais.

 

Following the welcome address by Alphonse K. Alva, the chief guest, Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa followed by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Navin Correa and Mrs. Leena D’Silva  showered  flower petals on the portrait of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan in whose memory the Teachers’ Day is being observed.

 

On behalf of the high school students, Navitha of thenth standard and on behalf of the PU College students, Ashish Alva spoke on the importance of the Teachers’ Day.

 

Delivering his key note address, Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa said that the students not only should remember and honour their teachers on the Teachers’ Day only but throughout their lives. The system of education is like a triangle in which the management, teachers and parents form the three sides and the students are in the centre. All these three elements not only protect but also guide the students and work together in the interest of the welfare of the students. Addressing the teachers, Fr. Denis said that teaching should be seen first as a vocation and then as a profession.  He made an appeal to the teachers to teach the students with love and give a good example so that they can grow in knowledge and values and be proud of their teachers.

 

Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas honoured the teachers and non-teaching staff by offering them gifts.

 

On this occasion, Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa handed over the shield to the PU College Girls Football Team which had recently won Runners Up Trophy at the Udupi District level championship.

 

 

Fr. Denis also gave away certificates to Shri Raksha of thenth standard who won first prize in Gazal singing, second prize in folk songs and third prize in ‘bhavageete’ at the Udupi Taluk level Pratibha Karanji held at Shri Narayanaguru Educational Institutions, Padubelle. Varadaraj, eighth standard student secured first position in Kannada elocution competition.

 

Teachers who had stood first in the spot games were also given prizes.

 

Rev. Fr. William Andrade thanked the Management and Teachers of the institution for their selfless serviced to the student community.

 

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas  said that the Management and students are grateful to the teachers for their commitment to the students and the institution. He said that teachers and students are like two sides of the same coin and both co-exist and cannot be separated. It is the teachers who not only impart knowledge to the students but also help them in growing physically and spiritually.

 

Principal Navin Correa proposed the vote of thanks and  Preston Antony D’Souza, student of Second Year Science compered the programme.
