The veteran psychiatrist Dr P V Bhandary who is leading the struggle said, ‘The district hospital should not be handed over the management to the corporate hospital in whatever forms. The corporate can donate healthcare facilities and should not run as a joint venture, The district hospital sans many facilities that got to be provided by the government without giving scope for private enterprise to take over,’ said Dr Bhandary.
Corporate failure
The state government should learn from the mistake in allowing the Apollo Hospital to run district hospital in Raichur and that is in financial crisis after repossessing. Seventy primary health centers (PHCs) from across the state that are allowed to run by private hospitals are now in pathetic condition. When these cases are in front of the government, it’s not appropriate to hand over the Udupi district hospital to private entities, added Dr Bhandary.
