Bantwal: Students of Sayyed Madani English School, Ullal spend a day at Oddoor Farm

Bantwal, 11 Aug 2016: Oddoor Farms owned by progressive farmer Rajesh Naik Ulipadyguttu, near here wore festive mood on Tuesday August 9, when a group of students arrived on study tour. The students who otherwise would have been within the classrooms studying spent at the farm enjoying every moment with the nature.
One-hundred-twenty-one students of Sayyed Madani English School, Ullal, Mangaluru spent their time at the farm to learn about the farming activities, dairy farming, preparing organic manure, nature pond etc.
Farming lessons
The students along with their teachers arrived at Oddoor Farm, near here on Tuesday August 9 at 11.00am. The progressive farmer Rajesh Naik offered info about his farm for about half-an-hour. He said, ‘Farming is the better profession that has fewer headaches.’ He appealed to the students to plant as many as saplings in their household and nurture like a member of their own family. The plants grow as trees and yield abundantly. He gave testimony of his own farm that was a disused land 29 years ago and now is lush with greenery. A lake was created that was necessary for irrigation; organic manure was prepared at home that restored the fertility of soil. The farming is profitable provided one gets fully immersed in it, said Rajesh Naik.
Dairy farming for multiple uses
He offered info on dairy farming, how the cattle are reared at the farm, grassland, cow-dung, gobar gas etc. The students shared happy moments with cattle.
Manmade lake
A lake was dug up in nearly one-and-a-half acre plot that has water throughout the year. He offered info about vegetables and fruits that grow aplenty at his farm, drawing toddy from palms.
The students were served with vegetarian lunch and left the farm to their school. They also clarified their doubts with Rajesh.
Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene district secretary Manohar Shetty, member Sudesh Mayya, N K Iddinabba, Sayyed Madani School correspondent Asif Abdulla, headmaster Imtiyaz, teachers Rasool Khan, Khalid, Dakshita, Shabana, Mamata, Sarita Gatti and Nushrat were present.
