Father Muller Medical College hosts Breastfeeding Week

Mangaluru, 04 Aug 2016: Father Muller Medical College, here in association with women and child welfare department and state food and nutrition Board hosted Breastfeeding Week here on Thursday August 4.
The women and child welfare department district officer Nataraj after inaugurating Breastfeeding Week that was themed ‘Breastfeeding is key to healthy growth’ said that it’s the mother’s duty to breastfeed within 1 hour after delivery at least for 6 months to 2 years.
Father Muller Medical College dean Dr Jayaprakash Alva in his presidential address said that nothing can be compared with breast milk that is wholesome for newborn. It also strengthens the bond of mother and baby.
AYUSH medial officer Dr Shobharani was the chief guest said that mortality of both mother and newborn can be avoided by proper care. The baby falls sick after consuming readymade milk. The baby gets immunity with breastfeeding.
Dr Pawan Hegde and Shivadarshan Tripati were present.
Dr Sridar Avabrat, Dr Maria Buthello, Dr Sarita Paul and Dr Seema Chavan delivered talks on the significance of breastfeeding, it methods and also nutritious food.
