With introduction of MA Course University hopes demand would rise for Konkani

Mangaluru, 29 July 2016: One among the several new courses being introduced this year at Mangalore University is an MA in Konkani. Currently, an academic course in Konkani is offered in Goa. Vice-chancellor Prof K Byrappa said that MA in Economics and Konkani will be started along with PG diploma in French and German at the university college located in Mangaluru. 

 

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Dr Jayavantha Nayak faculty of Economics, who for the time being is in-charge of the course, said so far they have received 7-8 applications.

 

"We are expecting a few more, since the last date to submit the application is this month-end. The course will deal with all aspects of the Konkani language, culture, history and so on. The course will have about five papers each in the first and second years. Dissertation will be an option during the second year.

 

About two lecturers will be appointed in addition to scholars from the field, who will assist in the academics.

 

Konkani will be taught in the evening college of the university from 5pm-9.00pm. Mangalore University started the evening college to cater to the educational requirements of the working class in the city. There is also a proposal to start PG diploma in cyber security and diploma in fine arts in the university campus.
