Mangaluru: Konkani community urges mayor to allot plot for building Konkani Bhavan

Mangaluru, 30 Jun 2016: It’s the aspiration of Konkani-speaking community to build Konkani Bhavan in city. Despite the correspondences are being made with municipal authorities since the past 2 years, to allot a site to construct Konkani Bhavan, no progress has been made. Its owing to this, there has been hindrance to organize Konkani cultural programmes. When CM Siddaramaiah arrived in city a month ago, offered assurances of releasing funds for constructing Konkani Bhavan, by identifying suitable plot and submitting the blue print of the building. At this backdrop, the delegation led by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino urged mayor Harinat to allot a plot for the proposed Konkani Bhavan in city.
The mayor Harinat said that the proposal is being reviewed by a Committee and assured the delegation that necessary actions will be taken to allot a plot for the proposed construction.
The Academy member Shekar Gowda, Lawrence D’Souza, registrar Dr B Devdas Pai, Konkani veteran leader Basti Vaman Shenoy, Fr Alwyn Serrao, Stany Alvares, Santosh Shenoy, Vidya Kamat, Govind Prabhu, Mahesh Nayak, Elias Fernandes, Bannu Fernandes, James D’Souza, Victor Mathias, Christopher D’Souza, Chandrika Mallya, Naveen Lobo, Felix D’Souza, Avil D’Souza, Daphney Veigas, Sunil, Sandeep and youth leader Jackson Saldan and others were present.
