Udupi, 27 Jun 2016: The restructuring and renovation of St. Lawrence Parish Hall, Moodubelle was initiated with prayer service by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Moodubelle along with Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest on Monday, 27 June 2016 at 10 am. Following  the prayer service, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas officially declared the beginning of the renovation work of the hall by digging the ground on the right side of the hall.

The existing Parish Hall was constructed way back in 2000 to facilitate parishioners to hold various functions including wedding reception. During the last 17 years the parish hall has been  used by many parishioners for their functions. However, with the changing times and needs of the people, the amenities provided in the hall seem to be inadequate. Hence, there has been a feeling among many of the parishioners that the parish hall should have a better look and modern amenities. With this view, with the approval of the Parish Pastoral Council and Finance Committee, the Parish Priest undertook the task of restructuring and  renovating the parish hall rather than rebuilding the entire structure in order to reduce the cost.

The contract to restructure and renovate St. Lawrence Parish Hall has been awarded to Mr. Elias D’Souza, proprietor of Civitech Civil Engineering and Project Management. Having worked in Dubai for nearly 25 years in the reputed construction company as an engineer, Mr. Elias D’Souza has ample experience and expertise in construction business. After returning to native place two years ago, Mr. Elias D’Souza has constructed some residential and commercial complexes which have been appreciated not only by the owners but also others for the quality of work and aesthetic value. One of the recent projects of Mr. Elias D’Souza was the renovation of the sanctuary of St. Antony’s Church and construction of the hall at Kuntalnagar.

According to Mr. Elias D’Souza, in the restructured and renovated hall the following amenities will be provided: External wall cladding for aesthetic look, false ceiling to have a better upper view, covering of the floor with vitrified tiles and granite, remodelling of the stage, provision for air-conditioning for the entire hall, spacious green room for change with attached washroom and air-conditioning facility, interlock tiles on the left side of the hall for open ground functions, covering of the open space to the right of the wall with retaining wall and tiled flooring for dining facility, new toilet block and hand-wash area and other facilities and amenities that are appropriate for any kind of function.

The entire task of restructuring and renovating of the hall is expected to take around four to five months at an estimated cost of around Rs.60 lakhs.
