Udupi/M’Belle: Labour Commission of St. Lawrence Parish organizes awareness programme

Udupi, 27 Jun 2016: The Labour Commission of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle in association with the Labour Commission of Udupi Diocese organized an awareness programme to many labourers and daily wage earners of Moodubelle and surrounding regions on Sunday, 26 June 2016 at 3 pm in the parish hall.
Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Moodubelle and Director of the Labour Commission of Moodubelle as well as Udupi Deanery presided over the programme. Mrs. Ranjani Hegde, President of Belle Grama Panchayat was the chief guest. Ram Murthy, Inspector o Labour Department, Udupi was the resource person. Other dignitaries on the dais included, Yatish-Labour Officer of Udupi District, Elroy Kiran Crasto-President of Labour Commission, Udupi Diocese, Valerian Mathias-President of Labour Commission of Udupi Deanery, Alphonse Alva and Mrs. Latha D’Mello-Vice President and Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council and Mrs. Winifred Fernandes-President of Labour Commission of Moodubelle Unit.
The Labour Awareness Programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas complimented the Labour Commission for organizing the awareness programme.
Mrs. Ranjani Hegde narrated two sad incidents of two youngsters of Moodubelle who were victims of accidents and their families could not get the benefit from government due to lack of knowledge to apply for such benefits.
Kiran Crasto gave an introduction about the awareness programme and introduced the resource person to the audience.
The resource person, Mr. Ram Murthy gave complete details of the various government schemes and benefits that are available to the labour class. He said that people working in different walks of life such as drivers, masons, electricians and daily wage earners also can apply for these benefits.
The audience were encouraged to ask questions and clear their doubts regarding the various government facilities and benefits to the labourers.
Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, former member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Michael Pinto-President of Labour Commission of Kundapur Deanery, few Belle Grama Panchayat members and around 100 people attended the programme.
Charles Quadros compered the programme, Mrs. Helen D’Souza welcomed the guests and Valerian Mathias proposed the vote of thanks.
