Recommendation to rename Mangaluru International Airport after Rani Abbakka
Mangaluru, 23 May 2016: Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader, speaking in the state capital on Sunday assured that he would recommend the Union government about renaming Mangaluru International Airport after Rani Abbakka.
The minister was speaking at a programme organized by the Department of Kannada and Culture and Veera Rani Abbakka Festival Committee. He said that Rani Abbakka was the first woman who fought against the foreigners and the present generation of students is unaware of her contributions.
He informed that a statue of Abbakka Rani would be installed in Yeshwantpur and the government would also be urged to include Tulu in 8th chapter of the constitution.
Minister for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports Abhayachandra Jain said that Rs 1 crore was set aside for starting an adventure sports academy in the Queen’s name.
