Bantwal, 02 April 2016: There is a community who were blended with the locals several decades, but they have never abandoned their native culture…It’s the tale of Holi celebration by Kudubi community who had settled in Kukkippady, near here.
Kudubi community who were living in joint families in the shore of Saraswati River had migrated from Goa about 200 years ago, have settled at Koryar, near here. The community survived on manual labour, progressed because of literacy that enabled them to get jobs. The community has built a temple for their deity goddess Mahammayee at Koryar, near here. The community is settled in different regions of DK district and celebrate Holi, festival of colours in their respective regions.
The community has celebrated Holy in their distinct way of folklore/dances that exemplified the mythological episode of Rama and Sita’s nuptials at Mayamayee temple, Koryar, near here on Thursday March 31 from morning till evening. The celebrations were concluded on Thursday night by offering puja to fire.
Holy celebrations were held by the community to strengthen the bond among each other by virtue of religiousness. The usual enmity that lies with the brethrens were set aside to celebrate the Holy with the head of community every year. The native culture will survive if the celebrations are observed with religiousness.
