Deacon Lawrence Cutinha to be ordained as priest on 7 April at Mudipu

Mangaluru, 03 April 2016: Deacon Lawrence Cutinha who has been assisting in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle for the last five months from November 2015 to March 2016 will be ordained as a priest at his native place, St. Joseph Vaz Shrine, Mudipu on 7 April 2016 at 10 am. Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will confer priestly ordination on Deacon Lawrence Cutinha. The ordination ceremony will be followed by felicitation programme.

 

Born on 19 July 1986 at Mudipu, Dn. Lawrence Cutinha is the youngest among five children, four sons and one daughter of late Felix Cutinha and Mrs. Eugine Mathias had his higher primary education at Government Higher Primary School at Kamlapadau and high school education at Madani High School, Thokottu completing SSLC in 2003.

 

 

With a view to join the Mangalore Diocese as a priest, Lawrence joined the Diocesan Minor Seminary ‘Gladsome Home’ at Mangaladevi soon after SSLC and completed PUC studies in Rosario PU College, Mangalore in 2005. Thereafter, Lawrence studied commerce course in St. Aloysius College, Mangalore and acquired B.Com. degree in 2008.

 

While in college, Lawrence participated in college sports, especially athletics. Being tall in stature he had an advantage over other boys in running and high jump. Lawrence also actively involved himself in parish activities and was elected as the president of his parish ICYM Unit for two years during which  a stage was constructed in the church premises  for various programmes.

 

Having strongly felt that he had vocation to join the priesthood, Lawrence entered St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore in 2008 and underwent the mandatory training for priesthood from 2008 till 2016. Having successfully completed various courses Br. Lawrence was ordained a Deacon along with others by the Bishop of Udupi Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo on 14 October 2015. Thereafter, Dn. Lawrence was assigned to St. Lawrence Parish for assisting the parish priest in various activities.

 

While in Seminary, Dn. Lawrence Cutinha had been active in various fields such as sports, dramatics and writing. He has been a very good player of volley-ball, basket ball, cricket and shuttle badminton. He had acted in a number of plays presented by St. Joseph’s Seminary. He has also contributed articles to periodical such as ‘Daivik Amrith’ and ‘Rakno’. Dn. Lawrence had performed Sunday Ministry at various parishes such as Ranipura, Shankarpura and Fermai.

 

 

While serving as  a Deacon in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle, Dn. Lawrence Cutinha endeared himself to the parishioners of Moodubelle. He was quite active in assisting the parish priest, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and assistant parish priest, Fr. Victor Fernandes (OFM Cap) during the Christmas celebration in December, parish feast in January and Lent and Holy Week in March.

 

Being ordained as a priest on 7 April 2016 will be a dream realized not only for  Dn. Lawrence Cutinha but also for his mother, brothers and sister, family members  relatives and Mudipu parishioners.
