Good Friday Service observed with great devotion at St. John’s Pangla

Pangala/S.Pura, 26 March 2016: Good Friday services were observed with great devotion by the faithful of St. John Evangelist Church on 25th Mar 2016. The services began with adoration early in the morning to the Holy Sacrament by ward members followed by way of the cross at 10am to 11am at the School ground wherein the faithful carried the heavy cross ward wise with great devotion and reverence.
The main service of the Good Friday, the commemoration of Passion of Christ was held in the evening at 5:30pm. The service began with the chief celebrant Rev. Fr. Vincent Coello (Principal, St. John’s Academy) came to the alter in a processing followed by Rev. Fr. Leslie D’Souza (Parish Priest), Rev. Fr. Jerald D’Mello, Fr. Lawrence Mendonsa and Bro Joshwin. The service included scripture readings, invocations and prayers for various intentions of the church and Veneration of the Cross.
In his Homily Fr. Leslie D’Souza highlighted seven sentences by Jesus on the cross and asked the faithful to meditate upon them and change our ways of living observing great teaching given by Jesus Christ until his death.
After the invocation and prayers for various intentions of the Church, the veiled Crucifix was brought to the main altar which was unveiled by the chief celebrant, Fr. Vincent Coello and after the priests venerated the Crucifix by kissing it, the faithful also took part to pay their respect and kiss the Crucifix at different points.
The last part of the Good Friday service was the Holy Communion following which the faithful dispersed and went to their respective homes in silence.
