Foresters rescue Leopard trapped in open well at Kutyar, near Shirva

Udupi, 14 Jan 2016: A leopard that strayed into inhabited lands since 2 days at Karmaru Jiddu, Kutyar, near Shirva was rescued by the forest department with the help of locals being reported on Wednesday January 13.
Leopard was found to be accidentally slipped into the open well in the household of Girija Moolya, at Karmaru Jiddu, Kutyar, near Shirva, here 2 days ago. When they lowered a vessel with the rope to draw the water from the well, the leopard snatched it forcefully. At that moment, when they peeped into the well, they saw leopard swimming in the water. The locals reported the issue with the forest department.
The forest personnel arrived at the spot and placed a cage along with a rooster in it and lowered into the well. The hungry leopard that was hiding in the dry cave-in-space entered the cage to prey on rooster, when the well was flooded with the water pumped from nearby well. The leopard was trapped in the cage that was covered with net and pulled out of the well.
The locals gathered in a large number to view the rescue operation.
The range forest officer Ramesh, deputy forest officer Nagesh Billava, foresters Suresh Ganiga and Manju Ganiga, forest guards Devaraj Pana, Jayaram Shetty, Prabhakar, Ramesh, Ganapati Nayak and Joy were involved in the rescue operation.
