Bantwal, 27 Nov 2015: Although traffic snarls are very much reduced after railway overbridge has been built at the city center, B C Road, here; the Melkar intersection of Mangaluru – Bengaluru national highway has been reeling under extreme traffic snarls almost daily.
The traffic has smooth flow in B C Road after flyover, widening of highway; which was notorious for traffic bottlenecks. The long queues of traffic form in Panemangaluru and Kalladka is the norm every day. The traffic piles up since 9.00am to 6.00pm and gets worsened during festivities and weddings. The sand laden trucks move slower at the intersection of 3 vital roads, when the private buses and other motorists compete for their space. If the bullet tankers carrying petroleum products break down on the middle of highway on the steep hill near Narahari hill, the traffic snarls runs for many days.
The traffic snarls indeed poses major hindrance to ambulances ferrying sick and ailing to the hospitals. The patrol police are expressing their helplessness in solving the traffic jam because they have the shortage of personnel. They seek co-operation from motorists to improve traffic situation.
