Udupi, Nov 26, 2015: The organizers of Mercy Trophy, Moodubelle are back in action with the much-awaited Sports Tournament of the year. Mercy Trophy is organized annually with a view to encourage and nurture sporting talent in villages.

 

This year Mercy Trophy Organizers are holding a District level Inter-school Volleyball tournament for boys under the age of 15 years. This tourney will be heldunder the guidance of the Moodubelle parish priest and correspondent Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and with the support of the Catholic Education Society, Udupi (CESU) at the St. Lawrence Pre-University College grounds, Moodubelle, on Monday 4th January 2016, from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

 

 

This year’s Volleyball tournament will be dedicated to the memory of late baby Wenola Aranha (D/o Preetham Aranha and Marita Aranha) who are from Moodubelle and reside in Bahrain.

 

The tournamentcontributes to sharpening the talent not just of the present crop of sports-persons but also creating a new generation to excelin various sports. This is the 5th year that Mercy trophy is organizing a sports tournament. They have been conducting cricket tournaments since the last four years. According to the organizers, the aim of this sports event is to encourage the rural students to showcase their talent in sports, especially volleyball,but also like previous years, to help underprivileged students and families who are in dire need of financial help.

 

No entry fee. Breakfast & Lunch will be provided for all the players and physical trainees. The organisers will re-fund (to & fro)bus ticket fares for all the players and physical Trainees. The winning teams will be awarded with cash prizes of INR. 5,555.00 &the winning trophy. The Runners up will be awarded INR. 3,333.00 &a trophy.

About Mercy Trophy – “Play for a Noble cause’

The Mercy Trophy team initially started out with few friends with a good intention of helping needy people in and around Moodubelle. As the years have passed this organizing team has grown to have over 100 supporters and well-wishers residing across the globe. Today there are many families who have benefited tremendously due to the magnanimity received from the Mercy Trophy sponsors and well-wishers. Mercy Trophy organizers not only support these families financially but also make it a point to visit them personally at least annually orbiannually.

 

During the first tournament that was held in 2012, a grand total of INR. 20,000 was generated. The organizers provided financial assistance of INR. 5000/- each to four poor and underprivileged families.

 

 

A grand total of INR. 1, 24,945.00was donated from the tournament held in 2013. The Mercy trophy organizers distributed INR. 50,945.00 to 11underprivileged students of St. Lawrence Degree College, Moodubelle for their college fees. Manasa Pamboor and seven other families were also the beneficiaries of the 2013 Mercy Trophy Tournament. In addition, financial assistance was also provided to an elderly woman with no children suffering from breast cancer. A poor family with 2 physically challenged grown up children were also given an assistance of INR 1,000.00 every month as a pension plan for a period of one year.

 

The Mercy Trophy tournament organized in 2014 resulted in a total amount of INR. 1, 14,576.00.Out of this INR. 20,000.00 was given to Manasa Pamboor, INR. 19,738.00 was paid to five underprivileged students of St. Lawrence Degree College & one student from St. Lawrence P .U College for the first term education fees. In addition, a systematic pension plan was arranged for 6 people who urgently required money for their regular medical treatment for a period of one year. The rest of the amount was given to 3 other people who needed money for their medical and house repair expenses.

 

The Mercy Trophy tournament organized in 2015generated a total amount of INR. 75,000.00, out of which 7 families are getting monthly pension for their medication.

 

This year they would be extending support to poor Children’s health care and education.

 

The Mercy Trophy Organizers express their gratitude to thegenerous sponsors and well-wishers who have been their avid supporters through the last four years. A small contribution on your part can result in a big leap of difference for fellow human beings who are less fortunate. The Mercy Trophy organizers looking forward the support to continue their mission and make this year’s Mercy Cup 2016 Volleyball Tournament a grand success.
