Udupi: St Mary’s College, Shirva demonstrates Street Play during Makkala Habba at Pilikula

Udupi, 24 Nov 2015: St Mary’s College Post Graduate department of Social Work scripted and enacted a street play on child abuse titled, Makkalu Holeyuva Nakshatragalu during Makkala Habba at Pilikula Nisargadhama, Mangaluru.
Dakshina Kannada district administration organized a mega Makkala Habba at Pilikula Nisargadhama, Pilikula, Mangaluru from November 21 to November 22. Along with wide range of activities a street play creating awareness on the challenges of a child and measures to protect from child abuse was presented.
During the programme the students of MSW performing the street Play highlighted POCSO Act of 2012, J J Act of 2000, Child labor Prohibition Act of 1986, Child Line1098, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Child Protection Unit working for the protection from Child Abuse.
The street play team performed at Pilikula, Vamanjoor, Central Railway Station Mangaluru and KSRTC Bus Stand, Mangaluru. People highly appreciated the performance of students propagating the concern of children through street play.
Child line 1098 Mangaluru recognized the street play team of St Mary’s College, Shirva and provided the opportunity for the performance. Professor Vignesh, faculty of MSW department scripted and directed the street play. Professor Laxmi Acharya, Professor Taranath K and Sampath Katti of Child line 1098 co-ordinated the programme.
