Mangaluru: Educationist Grace Pinto awarded Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar

Mangaluru, 07 Nov 2015: Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Shaktinagar, here organized the conferring of Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Puraskar during the valedictory function of Vishwa Konkani Sahitya that was jointly held in association with Karnataka Kannada and culture department, Goa University – English department and Konkani Language and Culture Foundation at T V Raman Pai auditorium, here on Friday November 6.
Centre for Endangered Languages, Vishwabharati Shantinektan chairman Dr Uday Narayan Singh presided the programme here on Friday.
Manipal Global Education chairman T V Mohandas Pai was the chief guest of the occasion.
Dr Uday and Mohandas Pai conferred Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar – 2015 (women division) to Mumbai-based Ryan International Group of education institutions managing director Grace Pinto, in recognition of her major contributions to education sphere and humanity.
The same award (men’s division) was conferred on Academy of General Education administrator and Rangabhoomi founder president Dr H Shantaram Manipal.
Vimala V Pai Konkani Sahitya Puraskar, Kavya Puraskar and Lifetime Achievement Award – 2015 was conferred on Meena Kakodkar, Andrew L D’Cunha and Konkani activist Suresh G Amonkar respectively.
Vishwa Konkani Kendra president Basti Vaman Shenoym vice presidents Allen C A Pereira and Venkatesh N Baliga, secretaries B Prabhakar Prabhu and Naresh R Kini, Ryan International Group of education institutions CEP Ryan Pinto, Smita Jaideep Shenoy, Palya Gaonkar, Award selection Committee chief C M Kamat were present.

Too many photographs have been carelessly splashed around in the report. Awards is about quality, not quantity. Providing titles for a few edited ones would raise the bar for reporting the event. Secondly, that VKC has endorsed Devnagari as script for Konkani is obvious. |
