Surathkal, 06 Nov 2015: Residents of Surathkal and local commuters beamed a smile on Friday morning looking at the plight of the Surathkal Toll Gate, which looked as though is being dismantled.
Even as the locals thought that the authorities had decided to roll back the decision of opening a toll gate at Surathkal, to their dismay, the toll gate was only damaged by a overladen truck that tried to pass through the toll gate, damaging the ceiling of the toll plaza at one point.
It is said that a lorry carrying beedi leaves from Udupi to Mangaluru hit one of the lanes of the toll gate at about 3.30 am on Friday, damaging the roof of the toll plaza.
This hit the traffic in the region for some time as vehicles could pass in a single line.
MLA Moideen Bawa, who too has opposed the toll gate in the past said that if a single truck can bring down the entire ceiling of the toll plaza, it holds mirror to the sub standard work that has been executed here.
He reiterated that started a toll gate at Surathkal was a wrong move.
