Kasargod: Puttur MLA Shakuntala inaugurates new bldg of Snehalaya Rehabilitation Centre, Pavoor

Kasargod, 06 Nov 2015: Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty inaugurated the new building block of Snehalaya Rehabilitation Centre for mentally challenged at Bachalike, Pavoor, near Manjeshwar, here on Thursday November 5.

 

The bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza of Mangaluru blessed the new building block on the occasion.

 

MLA Shakuntala in her inaugural address said, ‘One should have humanity.  One should come forward to serve the poor and downtrodden by keeping check on greed for wealth and selfishness.’

 

The bishop Dr D’Souza said, ‘Its essential what one gives to the society that has several people reeling with hunger, poverty and ill health.  One should be light to those,’ said bishop Dr D’Souza.

 

Kasargod deanery vicar and Bela – Our Lady of Sorrows parish priest Fr Vincent D’Souza, Pakshikere parish priest Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Pavoor parish priest Fr Aloysius, Talapady parish priest Fr Nelson Olivera, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino, Mangaluru mayor Jacinta Alfred, Narayana Guru Vedike president Krishna Shiva Kripa, Talent Research Foundation president Abdul Rauf Puttige, U K Group chairman U K Yusuf, Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike president Yogish Shetty, Snehalaya founder and managing trustee Joseph Crasta and others were present.

The major donors Rehmatulla Mangaluru, Abdul Rauf Puttige and Major Stany Mathew were felicitated for their generous contributions to Snehalaya.

 

Snehalaya managing trustee Joseph Crasta said that Snehalaya has been serving mentally challenged and orphaned since the past 6 years.  Over 100 such individuals including 2 Nepalese found new hope after restoring their wellbeing.  The inmates comprise 75 people.  Snehalaya has been supplying free food to 900 patients at state-run hospital in Kasargod and 700 patients at state-run hospital in district Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, said Joseph.

 

He further said that Snehalaya has a plan to open old age home and rehabilitation center for mentally-challenged women, besides to provide treatment to cancer patients and set up kidney dialysis facilities.

 

Fr George Crasta compered the programme. Mohammed Rafiq and A B Kuttian compered the programme.
