M’luru: MP Nalin inaugurates Kaushal Kendra at St Aloysius College to augment job market

Mangaluru, 31 Oct 2015: UGC sponsored Deen Dayal Upadhyay - Kaushal Kendra was inaugurated on the 7th floor of the LCRI block at St Aloysius College, here on Saturday October 31 at 10.30am.

 

Dakshina Kannada district MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the Kaushal Kendra. The state forests and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the new auditoriums of the LCRI.

 

Dr T D Kemparaju, newly-appointed registrar of Mangalore University was the chief guest of the programme. MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik was the guest of honor.

 

St Aloysius Institutions rector Fr Denzel Lobo SJ presided the programme.

The program commenced with the inauguration of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra, by the symbolic lighting of the lamp, followed by the inauguration by symbolic unmasking of the curtain of the two-newly-constructed auditoriums named after Fr L F Rasquinha, former principal and rector of St Aloysius institutions and Fr Robert Sequiera, former member of the department of chemistry.

 

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, in his address, stated that the purpose for Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra, was to give people with practical knowledge a degree certificate in order to create a large number of employment opportunities. He said that India isn’t deficit in practical knowledge but those who are well versed in practical knowledge lack degrees or a certificate for them to apply for a job and those who have degrees rarely have practical knowledge. He urged the youth to take responsibility to recognize and popularize skill oriented education in order to take our country to new heights. Nalin Kumar Kateel, then congratulated St Aloysius College on being among the top 48 colleges selected for the program in the country and among the top two colleges selected for the program in the state.

 

MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik urged the audience to help the country provide quality human resource, required for the world. He said, ‘Maybe its time to shift the approach for education to Skill Based education.’ He also stated that the very purpose for education is for enlightenment.

 

MLC Ivan D’Souza, in his statement said, ‘For everything there is scope, provided you have the right mindset.’ He urged the youth to open their minds to possibilities and to accept challenges.

 

Dr T D Kemparajustated that Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra would give opportunity to students to take a parallel course despite their degrees. He also strengthened the resolve of the mass, by asserting that full focus lies on the year 2020, for all over development of India as a greater potential for contribution to the global sphere.

 

Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, in his presidential address said that students should not just have just job oriented skills but also thinking skills. He said, ‘Our challenge is to prepare our young people for human resource for the global market.’

 

Walter D’Souza, former chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organizations - Southern Region, union ministry of commerce, Fr Xavier Alphonse SJ, founder director of  Indian Center for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE), Chennai and former principal of Loyola College, Chennai, and former vice-principal of St Joseph’s College, Trichy were the guests of honor.

 

The principal of St Aloysius College, Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, in his welcome speech, conveyed that, ‘The Future of education will be largely in formation of skills and attitudes.’

 

The Registrar of St Aloysius College, Dr A M Narahari, in his address, spoke about the origin and importance of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra and how it is a privilege  for the college.

 

A Certificate ceremony for all the students who completed their diplomas in Computer Animation, or Multi Media and Travel and Tourism of the Community College was organized. The honors were done by Dr T D Kemparaju.

 

The occasion concluded with the vote of thanks by the director of the DDU Kaushal Kendra, Fr Praveen Martis SJ, with Dr Alwyn D’Sa, dean of the arts faculty as moderator for the same.

St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru has been approved as DDU Kaushal Centre for the year 2015-17 under the 12th Plan Scheme with a grant of Rs 3.65 crore. 708 higher educational institutions including universities had submitted the proposal for this unique scheme. St Aloysius College is one of only 48 institutions approved by UGC throughout the country.


The innovative scheme provides a great opportunity for those students who have been deprived of higher education for getting skill-based, job-oriented degrees under the title B Voc (Bachelor of Vocation). The uniqueness of the degree is such that it has multiple exit points with job opportunity at each stage. The course has been designed to provide skill education with hands on experience by specifically defining the job role.
