Mangaluru: AIR presents Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan - 2015 to packed audiences

Mangaluru, 11 Oct 2015: Akashvani Mangaluru organized Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan - 2015 at Sudhindra Auditorium of Canara Girl’s High School, Dongerkeri, here on Saturday October 10 from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.

 

Dr Vasanthkumar Perla, assistant station director delivered the introductory address. Akashvani staff welcomed the gathering. E Eshwaraih, writer was felicitated during the function by G Rameshchandran and Dr Vasant Kumar Perla.

Palakkad Sriram of Chennai performed vocal from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. He started with Nata Raga, Adi tala, Tyagaraja Lyrics, and then he performed Malaya Marutha Raga, varali raga, Kalanidhi Raga and concluded with Todi raga of Tyagaraja Lyrics.   
 
Palakkad Sriram was introduced to the domain of music at a very early age under his mother’s guidance. His formal training was under Sundareshwara Bhagavathar. He had an immense passion for musical instruments that made him to practice on number of instruments. A post graduate in music from Calicut University, Sriram is known as a playback singer and as a flutist. He also plays a number of other instruments.  This multi-talented musician entered in the film industry as a flutist and sang for music directors -  Keeravani and A R Rahman. He has composed music for two Malayalam films and has many music albums to his credit. 
 
Accompanists were Vayala Rajendran from Thrissur played violin, whereas K S Mahesh Kumar from Thrissur played Mridangam and Khanjira by R. Karthik from Bengaluru. 
 
Talachangadu T M Ramanathan performed Thavil Solo. Kalyanapuram G Srinivasan performed Nadaswaram and D Amudhan from Trichy played Talam as an accompanists. He performed Hemavati Raga. T M Ramnathan was trained rigorously for 12 years by ‘Kalaimamani’ Thiruvizhanthoor A K Venugopal Pillai. The ‘Tavil’ is powerful rhythm instruments of south and is traditionally used for accompanying ‘Nagaswaram’at temple festivals in Southern India. Ramanathan has accompanied many veterans and also performed in many prestigious concerts in the country as well as abroad. His performances have been widely acclaimed by music critics. Thalachangadu T M Ramanathan is recipient of several awards including ‘Kalaimamani’ from Tamil Nadu Government.
 
From 7.30pm onwards - Mandolin duet by U P Raju and U Nagamani from Chennai was held.  U P Raju underwent 7 years of rigorous training under ‘Gurukulavaasam’ from R Subbaraju, a vocalist, who introduced Mandolin to the field of classical Carnatic music. Subbaraju used to sing and explain the nuances of ‘Gamakas’ which Raju would then adopt and reproduce in his own style on the Mandolin. 
 
Nagamani, at the age of 7 years was clutching a mandolin using her tender fingers to learn the intricacies of this stringed instrument and by lnine years of age, began performing as a seasoned soloist becoming the first female mandolin artiste playing Carnatic classical music. She learnt mandolin under the guidance of her husband U P Raju. They started Hamsadwani Raga, Aditala of Muthuswamy Dixit’s Lyrics and continued Madhavarali Raga, Nirosh raga and concluded with Sindhu Bhairavi Raga, Adi Tala of Purandardasar lyrics.
 
Raju with his wife Nagamani formed a formidable Mandolin Duet in Carnatic music and they have extensively performed around the globe achieving name and fame. They also train many students in the art of playing Mandolin in their school for learning Carnatic music. They have both won many awards and prizes from various esteemed Organizations. Accompanists Violin by Paruru M A Sundaresan from Chennai, Thavil by Tiruvallikeni K Sekar from Chennai, Ghatam by Coimbatore G Suresh from Kozhikode Khanjira by Papanasam S Sethuraman from Chennai.

Carnatic classical vocal by Palakkad Sriram and Thavil Solo by Thalachangadu T M Ramanathan will be broadcast all over India by all Stations on November 8 from 9.30pm to 11.00pm. Mandolin Duet will be broadcast on November 19, Thursday from 10.00pm to 11.00pm.
 
More than 500 audiences witnessed the entire concert glued to their seats. Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, Karnataka Bank managing director and chairman P Jayaram Bhat and other dignitaries were present. 
 
All music lovers are enjoyed and appreciated this music concert.
