Mumbai: Kambala patron Payyottu Sadashiv A Salian, owner of famed Nagaraja buffalo no more

Mumbai, 01 Oct 2015: Payyottu Sadashiv A Salian, Karnataka Rajyotsav Award recipient and owner of prized Nagaraj, the buffalo that was famed as Kambala Karna in Dakshina Kannada district because of its victory in many Kambala that is buffaloes race, passed away here on Thursday October 1 morning.
Salian was admitted at KMC Hospital, Mangaluru a week ago and passed away owing to cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. The funeral rites will be held at his ancestral house Payyottu, Mulky, Mangaluru on Friday October 2, informed family sources.

Sadashiv has been a great promoter of Kambala, the heroic buffalo’s race of undivided Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka in the past five decades. His prized buffalo - Nagaraja earned his several prizes because of its vitality and speed in many Kambala events. The postal department brought out a stamp of Nagaraja in the recent past. It bagged the highest bid of Rs 25 lac before it was dead in 2009.
