Bantwal: Meet Mysuru Husseini, whose skillful hands churn out art form of Ganesha

Bantwal, 17 Sep 2015: The festive season begins once the Ashada month gets over and Shravan month begins. From the tiny tots to elderly will be eagerly waiting for this season with much fanfare. It’s significant that the preparations for festivities beginning from Shravana month itself.

 

Yes, you guessed right, its Ganesha Chaturti celebrations that lasts from a day to a month. It’s unique among the Indian festivals. The tradition of making the idol of Ganapati in different patterns by clay or POP and worshiping, later immersed in water bodies is prevalent in India from several centuries.

The festival gave a fillip to freedom struggle in India during British rule, now emerged as an extravagant festival. It has given scope for a few people to swindle money from public contributions, immoral dances that are staged in the name of cultural events, thereby bringing disgrace to the festivities. Furthermore, the reckless use of plastics and chemical paints for decoration also causes environmental threat.

 

The people have no basic knowledge of polluting water bodies by immersing the idols of Ganapati made of POP and chemical colors. The marine beings in polluted water also die. How about making idols of Ganapati by using clay and without applying any color that is environment friendly and will not pollute water bodies. Meanwhile, the art form of Ganapati made out of paper is environment friendly that was educate the new generation and contribute its mite for healthy society.   

 

It’s a small effort by Husseini who is well known as Mysoru Husseini, well versed in this art. No sooner, he gets a scissor in his hands; he creates a masterpiece by his skills. How about using Ganapati for celebrations made out of paper………….!

 

He attempts to any art once the idea flashes his mind and often becomes successful.

The environmental-friendly Ganapati that Husseini’s skillful hands made draws the attention of onlookers and inspires one to try for them. He senses the interest and gives scissor and paper to try. Despite one or two attempts fail, one would succeed in a few more attempts and it brings joy.  

 

Husseini has founded a organization called, ‘Sanji Kala Loka,’ that lays emphasis on environmental-friendly Ganesha Chaturti. The artworks that are prepared by Husseini are ideal for decoration. The training workshops would also popularize the art, says Husseini. He had already held live demonstrations and art display in different places across the city. He also holds training camps in this regard.  

 

Husseini has been successful in holding live demonstrations in schools and colleges, voluntary and social welfare organizations, wedding ceremonies. He is longing to hold the training programme on environment-friendly Ganesha made out of paper. Husseini (Imam Sabi) is a contrast to Gokulastami because of his faith. Husseini has a mission to contribute his mite for environment through his art form.
