Mumbai: Yakshagana Kala Prashasti - 2015 conferred on noted artiste Sitaram Kateel

Mumbai, 14 Sep 2015: The award function of the late Acchu C Suvarna Memorial Yakshagana Kala Prashasti – 2015 that was instituted by Jaya C Suvarna as memorial for his mother and conferred through Narayana Guru Yakshagana Mandali that is promoted by Billawar Association Mumbai® was held at Narayana Guru auditorium of Billawar Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here on Saturday September 12 evening.
All India Billawar Federation president Jaya C Suvarna inaugurated the programme on the occasion. Billawar Association president Nityanand D Kotian presided the programme.
The renowned litterateur G L Hegde was the chief guest, conferred Yakshagana Kala Prashasti – 2015 to noted Yakshagana artiste Sitaram Kumar Kateel during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaya Suvarna said that the launching of Narayana Guru Yakshagana Mandali was the result of a few intellectuals who believed in fostering the heroic art of Yakshagana to the next generation. The graces of Narayana Guru lies in all Yakshagana artistes, said Suvarna.
The Association vice president Raja V Salian, Bhaskar V Bangera, Dr U Dhananjay Kumar, honorary chief treasurer Mahesh C Karkal, Akshaya – monthly bulletin honorary editor M B Kukyan were present at the dais.
Yakshagana artiste Prakash Paniyoor delivered the citation address. He lauded the intellectuals of Sitaram whose Yakshagana skills have enthralled the audience. Its rare to find a Yakshagana artiste of his calibre, said Prakash.
G L Hegde said that how he had changed his life after reading ideologies of Narayana Guru. He also said, ‘It’s difficult a task to lead a community, but Jaya Suvarna has been successful in this regard,’ said Hegde.
Nityanand Kotian in his presidential address said that Jaya Suvarna fostered Narayana Guru Yakshagana Mandali since the past 11 years that brings great joy to the entire Billawa community.
Sitaram in his acknowledgement address said, ‘I have bagged several awards in Yakshagana, but the most significant was Yakshagana Kala Prashasti – 2015,’ said Sitaram.
The cultural Committee president Dayanand R Poojary welcomed the gathering. Eshwar Alevoor introduced the guests. The Association honorary general secretary Dharmapal G Anchan delivered the introductory address. Akshaya – monthly bulletin sub editor Harish K Hejmady compered the programme. The cultural Committee honorary secretary Ashok K Kukyan Sasihitlu proposed vote of thanks.
Bheeshma Vijaya, Yakshagana play based on mythological episode was presented by the artistes of Narayana Guru Yakshagnaa Mandali on the occasion.
