State govt might ban clicking of photos in post-delivery wards

 

Mangaluru, 04 Sep 2015: The government is planning to enforce a ban on clicking photos using cell phone in post-delivery wards in both private and state-run hospitals across the state.  The decision comes close on the heels of a clerk in Bantwal writing to Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader stating the ill effects of clicking photos of new born.

 

Responding to this, Khader told officials that Ashiq Kukkaje had brought to his notice that people were clicking pictures of babies using cell phones in hospitals. He further said that the letter informed him that the infants could turn blind and even suffer other complications when their pictures are clicked using the flash. Hence, the petitioner has sought a ban on clicking pictures using cell phones in all hospitals and action had to be taken immediately,” he added.

 

Ashiq said that he had recently read that babies tend to lose their eyesight while photos were clicked as cell phones emitted a form of non-ionizing radiation.

 

If babies come in contact with this radiation, they might lose their sight. This has become a trend now to click photos and upload it online.

 

Taking cognizance of the same, Ashiq requested the health minister to instruct hospitals to install boards explaining the health hazard, which the minister has promptly responded to.
