Puttur: PTA Meet held at St Philomena College

Puttur, 27 Aug 2015: Parent Teachers Association (PTA) Meet of St Philomena College here was held at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall here Tuesday August 25.
The Resource Person of the programme, Rajendra Bhat, teacher and national trainer, Karkal began addressing the gathering by singing the song of the renowned Kannada poet, Kuvempu. He highlighted the role of parents in their children’s education. Education does not mean only scoring high marks; it also involves participating in all the activities of the college that helps in the holistic growth of the child, said Rajendra.
He further said, ‘The parents should not pressurize the students to win but they should also support them in the times of the failure and help them in making it as the stepping stone of success. Students should experience both success and failure in life that will make them stronger in this world.’
Speaking on the occasion Fr Dr Antony Praksah Monteiro, campus director and chairman of PG Studies said, ‘The Parent Teachers Association is a link that keeps the parents connected to the college. To a large extent, is a close partner of the school to support its education goal.’
Fr Alfred J Pinto, correspondent of St Philomena education institutions said, ‘Parent Teachers Association plays an important role in providing communication ground for parents, students, teachers and the school. PTA made up of dedicated, volunteering parents has largely contributed in the development of the institution.’ He also put forward the proposal of providing mid day meal to the needy students of the college.
The Principal of the College, Professor Leo Noronha said, ‘Organizing such kind of interactive programmes will help the parents know the performance of their children and also will be able to interact with the teachers.’
Ganesh Rao has been re-elected as the President, Wilma Gonsalves, Gangadhar and Yashodhara Chowta as the Vice president, Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar, head of the department of Kannada as the Secretary, Edwin D’Souza, lecturer, department of Chemistry as the Treasurer, Narayana Kelathaya and Vinay Chandra, head of the department of BCA as the Joint Secretary.
The Secretary of the PTA, Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar read out the annual report. The Treasurer, Edwin D’Souza read out the budget for the year. Professor Maxim Carl, head of department of Commerce conducted the election for the Parent Teachers Association 2015-16.
The president of the Parent-teachers Association, Ganesh Rao welcomed the gathering. Professor Vinaychandra, Joint Secretary of PTA proposed the vote of thanks. Nancy Lavina Pinto, lecturer of BSW compered the programme.
