Mumbai: 5 people of Bantwal origin died in building collapse in Thane (W)

Mumbai, 05 Aug 2015: Five people including a newly-married woman of Bantwal origin out of total 12 people died in the collapse of Krishna Nivas building, Noupada, Thane (West) here on Tuesday August 4 at 2.50am.
Three-storey building of Krishna Nivas was sixty-years old and in a dilapidated condition. Thane municipal authorities issued notice to building owner to vacate the building at the earliest.
A court case was pending in the court between the building owner and builder. The bodies of 12 were already identified, 10 people were rescued and admitted in the hospital nearby. Among them 7 are critical. The fire brigade and local social workers are engaged in rescue efforts. Thane police registered a case in this regard and investigations are in progress.
Five people of Bantwal among dead. Sixty-two-year-old Ramachandra Panduranga Bhat, fifty-eight-year-old Meera Ramachandra Bhat, twenty-five-year-old Rashmi R Bhat, twenty-three-year-old Ruchita R Bhat and fifty-six-year-old Subraya Bhat, all hailing from Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district died in the tragedy.
The state government and civic body have considered this tragedy seriously and will take appropriate action, said the officials.
Ramachandra Bhat was a well known social activist and caterer by profession. He was actively involved in social service through GSB Samaj Seva, Thane. His daughter Rashmi was married to Gujarati who is employed in Dubai just 2 months ago. She returned from Dubai just a few days ago. His another daughter Ruchita was unmarried died along with her parents. Ramachandra’s brother Subraya id in Gulf Oil and was living with them. The eerie silence prevails at the site.
The bodies were taken to Civil Hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, the deceased Ramachandra’s 3 brothers Sadashiv Bhat, Pramod Bhat (Bantwal) and Shankari Pramod Bhat, Padmanabh Bhat (Bantwal) and Vaman Bhat (Hyderabad) arrived in Thane and decided to cremate the mortal remains at the crematorium here, informed the family sources.
GSB Seva Mandal – Sion president Raghavendra G Bhat, vice president Ramanath Kini, honorary secretary Ramesh Bhandarkar, treasurer Suresh Bhat, joint secretary Prashant Puranik, joint treasurer Prashant Mallya, Ganeshotsav Committee convener Dr Bhujanga Pai, joint convener G D Rao and entire GSB community expressed their heartfelt condolences.
