Udupi: Aroma of Aati delicacies, Aatida Gobbu enlivens the fond memories of monsoon

Udupi, 03 Aug 2015: The aroma of Aati delicacies all around the household of traditional zaminadar’s house (that is locally known as Guttu house) was found on Sunday August 2.

 

The zaminadar Appanna yane Kodu Sadanand Shetty led the celebration along with his wife Sumalata, daughter Shradda and son Shravan. The lush green farmland, while the local elders gathered for the celebration in the courtyard of antique vastu designed house located in the middle of landscape.

Aati honor was accorded to seventy-year-old veteran progressive organic farmer Karia Sapaliga and bank manager Ramesh Poojary.

 

Karkal block resource person Jayanti Shetty briefed about the intrinsic value of traditional practices of erstwhile Tulunadu.

 

The rural games for both young and old were held by William Machado and Dr Gururaj.  Ramesh Poojary presented folk singing.  Sunil Cabral and K R Patkar presented a dialogue between grandmother and grand child.  Professor Ajit D’Mello presented Tulu songs. The live demonstration of cock fight and other variety games – Aatida Gobbu - were held in collaboration with Rotary Club.    

 

Aatida Gobbu, variety rural games were held at the direction of St Mary’s College – Shirva lecturer Professor Vittal Nayak and presided by Rotary Club president Melvyn D’Souza.

Rotary Club International district assistant governor Katpady Satyendra Pai offered the motion by pouring rice into a large measure of about 10 kgs. He also reminisced about traditional rural attire, farm equipments, bullock cart, Kambala – buffaloes race, delicacies of Aati etc.

 

The village elder Heroor Abbettuguttu Dr N S Shetty, former assistant governor B Pundalika Marate shared the childhood days of monsoon.

 

Nearly 35 varieties of Aati delicacies prepared by different families were shared on the occasion. Rotary Club secretary Paul Aranha delivered the vote of thanks.
