Udupi: St Mary’s Edu Institutions, Shirva pays homage to Dr Abdul Kalam

Udupi, 31 Jul 2015: St Mary’s and Don Bosco educational institutions, Shirva, near here organised a condolence meeting to pay homage to the former President Bharat Ratna Dr Abdul Kalam.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Padmanabha Bhat, head of the department of political science, St Mary’s College said, ‘India has lost a great leader, scientist, missile man, former first citizen of the country, a teacher and above all the youth icon of the country. He has proved that poverty is nothing to do with the ability to progress in life. He had great love to the students of this country and spent almost all his time in talking to the students after his retirement as President of India. His death is a great loss to the country particularly the students’ community.’
Fr Stany Tauro, correspondent of St Mary’s and Don Bosco Institutions, recalled an occasion to meet and travel together with Dr Kalam during a programme organised at Father Muller Medical College and Hospital at Mangaluru.
Fr Stany said, ‘Bharat Ratna Dr Abdul Kalam had a great love towards student community and he had travelled the length and breadth of this country motivating the students.’
Fr Dr Anil Castellino, campus director of St Mary’s Institutions, Fr Stephen Louis, assistant parish priest of Shirva, Professor Rajan V N, principal of St Mary’s College, Mrs. Irene Mendonca, principal of St Mary’s Pre-University College, Flavia Furtado, head teacher of St Mary’s High School, Florin Rodrigues, head teacher of Don Bosco Higher Primary School, Irene Rodrigues, head teacher of Don Bosco English Medium Higher Primary School, Gretta Noronha, head teacher of Don Bosco English Medium High School, Professor Jagadeesh Acharya, co-ordinator of St Mary’s PG department of commerce, Professor Laxmi Acharya, co-ordinator of PG department of social work, Wilson D’Souza, vice president of Shirva parish council, secretary William Machado, students leaders of all institutions, executive Committee members of Parent Teachers Association, staff and students of all institutions were present.
The programme was compered by Professor Melvyin Castellino, head of the department of management, St Mary’s College, Shirva.
