Udupi: Vanamahotsav meaningful when plants nurtured to grow - Ida G D’Souza

Udupi, 15 Jul 2015: The education institutions, community forestry department and general public have been planting saplings since many years, but it’s rare that they sustained for long. The students have friends, likewise if the plants are nurtured like friend; the plant would become tree and give fruits and shade, said ZP member Ida Gilbert D’Souza.
Ida D’Souza was speaking during Vanamahotsav celebrations held at Don Bosco School, Shirva, near here on Tuesday July 14.
Don Bosco School director Fr Anil Castelino in his presidential address appealed to the students to plant local saplings because that easily blends with environment. He revealed the scientific reason behind age-old practice of planting Tulsi saplings and worship by elders because its known to release oxygen and creates healthy environ.
The School head teacher Gretta Noronha said that they have been sourcing the saplings of jackfruit, mango, neem, blackberry that they students are very much aware of.
The student Irol D’Souza spoke on the importance of environ for the survival of mankind.
Sanjivini Eco Club director Irene Cardoza, president Prajna and School people leader Immanuel were present at the dais. The teachers Alwyn Danti, Lidwin, Sumitra and Vishwanat assisted in the programme.
