Udupi, 13 Jul 2015: Its irony that human rights abuse is prevalent in a few police stations that are supposed to uphold the constitutional rights, said Robert D’Souza, national president of Indian Human Rights Committee.
Robert was speaking after inaugurating the meeting of district Human Rights Committee held at Mahajan auditorium of Hotel Kidiyoor, here on Sunday July 12.
‘The state-run ambulance service 108 is marred with scam. The corruption is rampant across the nation. We got to expose such cases. NHRC has permitted to erect information chart on human rights in police department, government offices and hospitals. The need of the hour is to create mass awareness on human rights,’ said Robert.
The human rights international trainer and TV serial actor Shailaja Santosh held the training programme for the members of Udupi district Human Rights Committee.
Shailaja said that if the state education department incorporates human rights info in curriculum, it would benefit in creating awareness on inequalities in society.
Indian Human Rights Mangaluru Committee president Anand Shetty was present. A training cell to train government department staff was inaugurated on the same occasion.
Human Rights Udupi district Committee president Inna Uday Kumar Shetty delivered the introductory address. Chaitra Kumar rendered the prayers. The vice president Laxmikant Beskoor welcomed the gathering. The general secretary Ratnakar Indrali compered the programme. Venkatesh Bhat proposed vote of thanks.
