New Delhi/Bhopal, 06 Jul 2015: A female trainee sub-inspector, selected through the Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal (Vyapam), on Monday committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district.

Anamika Kushwaha was posted as a trainee at the Jawaharlal Nehru Training Centre.

The training centre is situated near a pond in which she jumped to death early Monday. We have recovered the body. The reason of the suicide is not clear yet, a police official said.

Four petitions related to the Vyapan scam are to be filed in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Opposition parties are demanding a CBI probe into the Vyapan scam.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday referred to the death of a trainee sub inspector at the Jawaharlal Nehru Police Academy in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, as yet another casualty in the Vyapam scam.

The Congress leader shared his views via twitter.

"Training Cop recruited through Vyapam commits suicide in Sagar Police Academy MP. 46th or 47th ?" he posted.

The admission and recruitment racket in Vyapam (or the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board) apparently involves politicians, officials and businessmen. More than 40 people associated with the scam have died since 2013.

Setback for Shivraj Singh Chouhan

The Vyapam deaths are a serious setback for the popular Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and represents a rare vulnerability in the political armour of the earthy politician who has been on a winning spree since his installation as CM in 2005.

The timing of the mysterious deaths could not have been worse. They coincide with the attack on the Modi government over the Lalit Modi scam, and can be handy for the opposition to question Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievement in ensuring a scam-free year at the Centre.

With Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje under fire over her links with Lalit Modi, the adverse spotlight on Chouhan can help Congress assault the peripheries before it gets ready for an attack on the Centre.
